Our Medication Refresher is designed for people in care roles where they handle or administer medication, and who would like to keep their skills and knowledge up to date. This half day course is a great way to update your knowledge on how to safely handle, administer and record medications.
The course follows the Medicine Act 1968 and other related legislation, regulation, and guidance.
For those in roles where they work with medication, we recommend following Medication Refresher training annually to make sure you stay up to speed with legislation changes.
The programme includes:
The importance of maintaining the service user’s privacy, dignity, independence and choice
Legislation surrounding medication administration
The various roles and responsibilities of those handling and administering medication
Categories of medication, as set out by the Medicine’s Act 1968
Variety of medications, their uses and side effects
Define ‘contra-indication’ and how it affects medication administration
How to deal with refusals and errors in medication administration
Features of medication administration records (MAR) and their requirements
Safe storage and disposal of medication
Identify what you should look for when checking a prescription
NB. For those who seek an introduction to Medication, we recommend the Highfield Level 2 Award in Principles of Medication Handling and Administration for Care Settings, which is a full day course accredited by Highfield Qualifications.
At the end of the day, successful participants will receive a Kemble Training Attendance Certificate that lists all the completed elements.
