First Aid Training

Our First Aid Training can be facilitated as a course just for your organisation at our training centre or 'onsite' at your location. The course comes in a number of variations, from non accredited to accredited, depending on your requirements. 

Basic First Aid inc CPR (For new care staff)

Aimed at existing or new care staff to update skills and knowledge. This course lasts for approximately 4 hours and run twice a month in our annual training calendar. Training can be facilitated just for your organisation at our training centre or 'onsite' at your location. We recommend annual refresher of First Aid to ensure staff are competent and kept up to date with the latest legislation and practises. 

  • What is First Aid?

  • The role and responsibilities of the First Aider

  •  How to conduct a Primary Survey

  • Be able to place a casualty into the Recovery Position

  • Be able to perform CPR

  • Know First Aid responsibilities for: Choking, Seizures, Shock, Bleeding, Stroke, Burns, Heart Attacks

Aimed at existing or new care staff to update skills and knowledge. This course lasts for approximately 3 hours and run twice a month in our annual training calendar. Training can be facilitated just for your organisation at our training centre or 'onsite' at your location. We recommend annual refresher of First Aid to ensure staff are competent and kept up to date with the latest legislation and practises.

Emergency First Aid Level 3, inc CPR and Defib (1 day)

Aimed at existing or new staff to update skills and knowledge. This course lasts 1 day and is run in our annual training calendar at a cost per person. Training can be facilitated just for your organisation at our training centre or 'onsite' at your location as a group. 

The objective of this qualification is to support learners in becoming emergency first aiders in the workplace. The content of the qualification meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for training emergency first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment.

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider and how to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), providing first aid to a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock.

In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place emergency first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider

  • Be able to assess an incident

  • Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking

  • Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock

  • Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries

How is the qualification assessed?

This qualification is assessed by the following two methods:

 

  • Practical assessment - Learners must demonstrate the practical first aid skills, as indicated within the Highfield assessment paperwork.

  • Theory assessment - Learners must answer a series of multiple-choice questions as outlined within the Highfield assessment paperwork.

First Aid at Work Level 3, inc CPR and Defib (3 day)

Aimed at existing or new staff to update skills and knowledge. This course lasts 3 days and only for group bookings, training can be facilitated just for your organisation at our training centre or 'onsite' at your location. 

The objective of this qualification is to support learners in becoming first aiders in the workplace. The content of the qualification meets the HSE requirements for training first-aiders in those organisations that have identified that staff need to be trained to this level within their first-aid needs assessment. 

 

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. The qualification also covers first aid skills in CPR and use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is suffering from major injury and illness such as chest injuries, spinal injuries and anaphylaxis. 

 

In line with guidance provided by the HSE, the qualification supports/approves work place first aiders for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to retake the course. In addition to this, it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.
